Welcome Caroline!

At the end of January, we welcomed our new EMEA CEO, Caroline Foster Kenny, to our network and to St John’s Square. You’ve already heard from her a number of times about her meetings in New York and her observations from her first few weeks, but we thought we’d catch up with her here in London to hear a little bit more about her background, interests and plans for IPG Mediabrands and our London Hub.

Tell us a bit about your previous roles in media:

The list would go on a bit as I’ve been working within media agencies for more than 25 years.  Needless to say, I’ve had all kinds of roles; locally, regionally and globally, leading markets, leading clients and leading competencies.   There has never been a dull moment and I’ve had a ball.

What attracted you to IPG Mediabrands and what are your first impressions?

IPG Mediabrands is almost the opposite to my previous world of GroupM, and you know what they say: opposites attract! Here, I believe we have the opportunity to pioneer and lead the industry; which is something that inspires and drives me enormously.  In terms of first impressions, I see lots of brilliance and I see lots of potential everywhere. We need to start a new journey together.  I think we could be the industry’s best kept secret.

What are your key priorities for the coming year?

Setting a vision and strategy that motivates and inspires everyone who works here – and communicating that vision both internally and externally. Of course, winning new business will be crucial to growing our reputation, so that’s an important point of focus for me. As CEO for EMEA, I get to work with some brilliant markets – but initially, the UK and our EMEA Hub here in London is a key priority for me. We have huge potential and I want to make sure we reach it.

Most Dynamic client you’ve worked with in the past?

Probably Netflix – they move at pace and make decisions fast, fueled by data. They test and learn, continually evolving whilst on the run.  It certainly keeps you on your toes!

What makes a great leader?

In my mind, great leadership is about being people focused.  Listening, inspiring, leading & guiding people to success and being their very best.

What are your favourite things outside of work?

My three kids & other half; though not sure they’re ‘things’.   Delicious food and wine.  Alexa Echo. Walking. Sunshine.
